Project Overview

Houston, TX

Houston, one of the most populous cities in the United States, continues to grow rapidly. The city specializes in the oil, aeronautics, health care, energy, and manufacturing sectors. To have efficient and ample water supply for its growing community, the City of Houston hired consulting engineers Dannenbaum Engineering Corporation, Houston, to address its water supply and storage needs. After researching available alternatives, the project team specified AWWA D110 Type III wire-wound prestressed concrete water storage tanks for their long-term durability and low cost of ownership.

In 1983, Preload was selected as the preferred firm to design and construct three, 12.5 MG tanks, each with a side water depth of 36’ and an inside diameter of 250’. These massive identical tanks’ exteriors feature earth-toned walls accented with white pilasters that match the dome roofs. Preload has gone on to build more than a dozen tanks for the City of Houston and surrounding communities since these tanks were built.
