Project Description

Michigan’s state capital and home to the Michigan State Spartans, Lansing experienced tremendous growth in population and businesses from 1990-2000. To address its significantly increasing water storage demands, the Lansing Board of Water and Light hired consulting engineers Fishbeck, Thompson, Carr & Huber, Inc., Grand Rapids, MI. After considering available alternatives and their costs and benefits, the project team specified an AWWA D110 Type III prestressed concrete tank due to its long-term service life. Preload, with more than 80 years of experience designing and constructing prestressed concrete tanks, was selected as the preferred tank builder.

Built in 1999, the 2.0 MG Preload tank has an inside diameter of 117’ and a side water depth of 25’. Its durable, free-span dome roof can withstand the heavy snow loads experienced in this region of the country. Preload is proud to have provided the City of Lansing a water storage tank with a long life span of reliability and very low maintenance.
