Project Overview

Oak Creek, WI

Located along the western shore of Lake Michigan adjacent to Milwaukee, Oak Creek is one of the fastest-growing cities in Milwaukee County. In 1995, the City of Oak Creek joined forces with engineering firm Kaempfer & Associates, Inc., Oconto Falls, WI, to address the community’s growing water storage needs. After researching available options, the project team determined that an AWWA D110 Type III wire-wound prestressed concrete water storage tank would be the optimal solution because of its inherent long life span, durability, and negligible need for maintenance. Preload, with more than 80 years of experience designing and constructing prestressed concrete tanks, was selected as the preferred tank builder.

This Preload reservoir holds 6.0 MG of water, and has a side water depth of 60’ and an inside diameter of 135’. The tank includes a durable, free-span dome roof that can withstand the heavy snow loads experienced near the lake. In addition, the tank’s exterior features 4’ wide full-height brick pilasters tied back to the tank wall. This Preload tank continues to provide reliable, low-maintenance water storage for the residents of Oak Creek and will do so for decades to come.
