Thermal energy storage is an integral part of today’s chilled water systems, whether for energy savings or to keep mission-critical systems online at all times. Preload's chilled water tanks incorporate an inlet and outlet piping and diffuser system that takes advantage of the fact that colder water will naturally settle to the bottom of the tank. When used in conjunction with a facility’s air conditioning, these combined systems are designed to chill water at night (during off-peak electrical demand), store the chilled water for use during peak demand, and thus substantially reduce energy costs.
Many businesses, government offices, and institutions utilize chilled water systems to save on daily energy costs or to provide reserve back-up cooling to critical systems during air conditioning downtime or in the event of a power failure.
Thermal energy storage systems can also be used to chill the inlet air to gas turbine power systems during periods of especially hot weather. This improves the efficiency of a gas turbine power outlet and can reduce the need to bring more gas turbines online.
