Byron Center, MI

Byron Township, located in Kent County, Michigan, has seen substantial growth over the years; consequently, the Township was in need of more water storage. In 1999, the Byron-Gaines Township hired consulting engineer Prein & Newhoff, Byron Center, to design a water storage tank for the community. Preload was selected as the preferred tank builder to construct the 2.0 MG AWWA D110 Type III wire-wound prestressed concrete tank. The project team specified a prestressed concrete tank because of the inherent long life span, durability, and negligible need for maintenance.
The tank has a 35’ side water depth and a 99’ inside diameter. It features a dome roof and a caged exterior ladder. The durable dome roof, with its uniform compression throughout the dome shell, is designed to withstand heavy snow loads.
