Milford, CT

Located just off of two of Connecticut’s major roadways I-95 and Merritt Parkway, and the Amtrak and MetroNorth railway lines, Milford is quickly accessible to Boston and New York. In 1988, engineers at Northeast Utilities Service Company (now Eversource Energy) determined a need for cooling water storage at the company’s Milford Generating Facility. This gas-fired power plant is situated along the Housatonic River, which runs 149 miles in western Massachusetts and western Connecticut.
After considering available options, Preload was hired to design and construct two 1.2 MG prestressed concrete tanks to hold cooling water for the plant. These open-top AWWA Type III wire-wound prestressed concrete tanks each have 85’ inside diameters and 30’ side water depths. The tanks were built on deep foundations with piles and thickened structural concrete floors.
