Project Overview

Southington, CT

Southington is located in Hartford County which is also home to Hartford, the state’s capital and largest city. In 2018, Southington Water Department retained Tighe & Bond to design a new 2.0 million gallon (MG) finished water tank to replace two existing welded steel tanks on Mill Street. After researching available tank options, the project team of Tighe & Bond and Southington Water Department selected an AWWA D110 Type III prestressed concrete tank. Both Tighe & Bond and Southington Water have quite a lot of experience with prestressed concrete tanks.

In February of 2019, Preload was selected as the general contractor for the project. The construction team was completed by Preload’s selection of Tabacco & Sons Builders to complete the Site/Civil work. Construction was complicated by the very high wall height and the close proximity of the existing tanks. With careful planning by the Construction team, Preload was able to overcome these challenges.

This 2.0 MG Water Storage Tank will provide reliable service to Southington residents for many decades to come.
