PRELOAD Names Galveston, TX Winner of The 2020 Concrete Decision Award, Top Tank of The Year

Although a challenging year caused delays holding our annual Top Tank contest, we wanted to end 2020 on a high note. What better way to end the year than announcing the annual Concrete Decision Award, Top Tank of The Year winner? Louisville, KY – PRELOAD LLC, the global leader in prestressed concrete tank design and construction, has tallied your votes and named the City of Galveston’s 7.5 million gallon water storage tank in Galveston, Texas, as its 2020 Concrete Decision Award, Top Tank.

About Galveston:

The Galveston Ground Storage Tank holds 7.5 million gallons of treated water serving the Galveston area communities. This tank’s massive size includes an inner diameter of 179 feet and a high water level (HWL) of 39 feet. The City of Galveston selected this project to be an AWWA D110, Type III prestressed concrete tank. They chose this tank style because of its long-term durability, robust resistance to severe weather and low cost of maintenance. The ground storage tank design was unique as it was engineered to withstand hurricane-force winds and storm surge wave action in the event of flooding from the Gulf of Mexico.

This year’s campaign registered over two thousand online votes for 20 tanks from across the United States! This year’s second-place tank goes to Baltimore County’s Department of Public Works Fullerton Finished Water Reservoirs. These three 22 million gallon water reservoirs mark a historical record-breaking build. The Fullerton Finished Water Reservoirs were in Baltimore County’s master plan since the early 1950s. They provide a secure, reliable treated water supply to the residents of both Baltimore County and the City of Baltimore.

Third place goes to the City of Pasadena’s 5.0 million gallon water storage tank located in Pasadena, Texas. The tank provides redundancy and additional storage capacity at an existing pump station serving this growing city.

Supporting our Communities:

PRELOAD will make a $3,000 donation to Water for People on behalf of the City of Galveston. Preload will give an additional $1,500 donation on behalf of the first-runner-up Baltimore County’s Department of Public Works, Maryland.

In addition to the donations to Water for People, a non-profit organization that promotes high-quality drinking water and sanitation globally, the winning community will have an exclusive jacket patch featured by The Water Buffalos. This charitable organization raises funds and awareness for water projects through their annual ride to ACE and individual AWWA sectional meetings.
