East Hazel Crest, IL
The Village of East Hazel Crest, a suburb of Chicago, was in need of a water storage tank for its increasing water supply demands. Robinson Engineering LTD, South Holland, IL, was hired to lead this project. After researching available options, Robinson specified an AWWA D110 Type III wire-wound prestressed concrete tank for its reliability and economy of ownership. Preload, which has designed and constructed prestressed concrete tanks since the 1930’s, was selected as the preferred tank builder.
Built in 2006, this 1.0 MG Preload tank has an 83’ inside diameter and a 24.75’ side water depth. It features a column-supported flat-slab roof. Preload constructs flat-slab roofs with reinforced concrete, supported by circular columns, each with a footing sized for the allowable soil-bearing capacity. Like all roofs on Preload tanks, this flat-slab roof is designed in accordance with the rigorous provisions of the AWWA D110 Standard, ACI 372 Report and the ACI 350 Code for Environmental Structures.
Preload enhanced the tank’s exterior with brick pilaster and arched pilaster architectural treatments. In addition to providing communities trouble-free water storage, Preload offers a wide range of exterior tank colors and geometric alternatives to suit a community’s aesthetic needs.
