Project Overview

Fitchburg, MA

Located in the Montachusett Region of North-Central Massachusetts, Fitchburg is 46 miles northwest of Boston, 25 miles north of Worcester, and 211 miles from New York City. In the mid-1990’s, the City of Fitchburg selected Weston & Sampson Engineers, Inc., Peabody, MA, to design four new water storage tanks. After researching the available options, the firm opted for AWWA D110 Type III wire-wound prestressed tanks because of their inherent long life span, durability, and negligible need for maintenance. In 2000 and 2001, Preload, a recognized industry leader, was selected as the preferred tank builder to construct all four tanks under the same contract for the City of Fitchburg. Preload built these tanks with the following capacities at these Fitchburg sites: 1.5 MG at Overlook Reservoir, 0.5 MG at Scott Reservoir, and two 1.0 MG reservoirs at the Falulah site (pictured).
