Project Overview

Arkansas City, KS

Arkansas City is a city in Cowley County, Kansas, United States, situated at the confluence of the Arkansas and Walnut rivers in the southwestern part of the county. Present-day Arkansas City sits on an ancestral Wichita city site, which flourished from 1450 to 1700. However, Arkansas City was officially founded in 1870. In 2015, the City of Arkansas retained Burns and McDonell to design a new 1.5 million gallon (MG) finished water tank. After researching available tank options, the project team selected an AWWA D110 Type III prestressed concrete tank with a domed roof and membrane flooring.

In 2015, Preload was selected as the general contractor for the project. Construction was complicated by high groundwater and persistent rain. Preload was able to overcome this challenge by maintaining close coordination with our site work partners.

This 1.5 MG Water Storage Tank will provide reliable service to the City of Arkansas and the surrounding area for many decades to come.
