Newport, NH
Nestled in the hills of Western New Hampshire in the scenic Upper Connecticut River Valley, Newport is a rural community located between Interstates 89 and 91. Recognizing the need for more water storage, the Town of Newport hired consulting engineer Dufresne-Henry, Inc., Montpelier, VT, to determine an optimal solution. The project team specified an AWWA Type III wire-wound prestressed concrete tank due to its long-term durability and negligible maintenance requirements. Preload, with more than 80 years of experience designing and constructing prestressed concrete tanks, was selected as the preferred tank builder.
Built in 2000, this Preload tank has a capacity of 1.35 MG water storage, with an inside diameter of 80’ and a side water depth of 36’. The tank is partially buried with a sloping differential backfill. It features a perforated PVC inlet pipe for improved water circulation. The tank has an exterior caged ladder and a dome roof. With uniform compression throughout the dome shell, the dome roof is designed for heavy 60 psf snow loads.
