Project Overview

Newtown is located in Fairfield County and is considered part of the Danbury metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1705. In 2018, Aquarion Water Company of CT [formerly Bridgeport Hydraulic] retained Tata & Howard to design a new 1.0 million gallon (MG) finished water tank to be built on a virgin wooded site in Newtown/Sandy Hook. After researching available tank options, the project team of Tata & Howard and Aquarion selected an AWWA D110 Type III prestressed concrete tank for the very first time in their 160 year history.

In July of 2018, Preload was selected as the general contractor for the project. The construction team was completed by Preload’s selection of Verdi Construction to complete the Site/Civil work. Construction was complicated by high ground water and persistent rain. With close coordination with our site work partner, Preload was able to overcome this challenge.

This 1.0 MG Water Storage Tank will provide reliable service to Aquarion’s customers in the Newtown area for many decades to come.
