Project Overview

Butler, PA

Butler is a city in a fast-growing Butler County located north of Pittsburgh. In 2010, the Butler Area Sewer Authority teamed up with consulting engineers, Chester Engineers, Coraopolis, PA, to find a flow equalization solution to manage increased sewer flow rates during wet weather events. After carefully researching various options, the project team specified five AWWA D110 Type III wire-wound prestressed concrete tanks for the Butler area. Preload, with more than 80 years of experience designing and constructing prestressed concrete tanks, was selected as the preferred tank builder.

Preload constructed three large tanks at the county’s Central Storage location that each holds 4.7 MG of dilute sewage. In addition, Preload built two 1.0 MG flow equalization tanks at the Monroe Pump Station located in downtown Butler. With their long-term reliability, negligible need for maintenance, and economy of ownership, these five Preload tanks will serve this Pennsylvania community for many decades to come.
