Montgomery County, OH
In need of an equalization basin to regulate flow rate to its wastewater treatment system during heavy weather events, the Montgomery County Sanitation District hired consulting engineer CDM Smith, Inc., Cincinnati, to determine an optimal solution. After researching available options, CDM specified an AWWA Type III wire-wound prestressed concrete tank due to its long-term durability and negligible maintenance requirements. Preload, with more than 80 years of experience designing and constructing prestressed concrete tanks, was selected as the preferred tank builder.
In 2000, Preload constructed this equalization basin with a 4.0 MG capacity, 225’ inside diameter, and 13’ side water depth. This tank features a column-supported cast-in-place concrete walkway bridge and central platform for tank wash-down. A dormer on the dome allows access through the dome, connecting to a wall-supported aluminum stairway to the ground. The dome has multiple penetrations including skylights, ventilation fans, ducts, and hatches.
